in the path of Ike

I was watching the news on the TV. They said that winds of 74 mph had been reported at the airport, the Cincinnati airport. That is category 1 hurricane force winds.

Reports of destruction are coming to me:

Damage is widespread throughout the Tri-State as winds gust up to 70 mph.

Traffic lights are out throughout town.

A roof has blown off a building across from the Bob Sumeral Tire Company on East Court Street, layering the road with debris.

At 8th and Sycamore, concrete planters are knocked over as though they were made of styrofoam.

Parts of the roof of the Christ Church Cathedral at 4th and Sycamore has disintegrated off, with a huge piece of metal flashing wrapped around a silver sedan.

The Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport has ben completely shut down after part of the roof on the Delta terminal was severely damaged by wind.

More than 542,000 Duke Energy customers were without electricity in southwest Ohio and northern Kentucky. Officials said most of those customers live in Butler, Hamilton, Warren and Clermont counties in Ohio.

Strong winds prompted the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to evacuate it's control tower and cancel about 40 flights before resuming air traffic, airport spokesman Ted Bushelman said.

Strong gusts ripped off part of the roof from a Delta Airlines hangar and damaged another airport building, Bushelman said. He said winds were up to 74 mph.

In Middletown, gusts knocked down a tree, which landed on a nearby house and suspended a truck in mid-air.

"The tree is leaning on our neighbor's house, and then the root lifted up the back end of my husband's truck. It's about 8 feet in the air," resident Barbara Ray said. "We've been out here for 17 years and we've never had winds like this."

So, I suppose most of my friends and family are without power and can not send me an email that they are ok. But I worry anyway. I am reminded of something a man named Terence McKenna said about an increasing rate of Novelty.

As soon as you can, let me know you are all ok.
