School Systems in Belize

Here are some pictures of the primary Catholic School near where we live.

Here are some pictures of the College, Chris goes to.

A friend of mine asked me about the school system in Belize and this is what I have found out. I asked a friend here and also did a search on the internet. This is what I have found out.

The Belizean school system was based on British education and is broken into three levels: primary, secondary, and tertiary.

Belizean children began their eight years of primary education with two years of "infant" classes, followed by six "standards."
The primary starts out at age 5 through 13.

Secondary school is 4 years and is often referred to as College. This starts at ages 13-17

Sixth form is a two-year postsecondary course, originally intended to prepare students for the Cambridge Advanced or "A-Level" examinations. This is an Associate Degree. This starts at age 17-19.

They also have Universities. Those offer a Bachelor's Degree. They start at age 19.

The primary schools are mostly free. Most of the primary schools have uniforms. You have to pay for the uniform and books and supplies. The Secondary schools are mandatory like the primary schools are. The Secondary schools also cost more to go to. They vary in costs depending which school you chose and such. Sixth form also is not mandatory and costs even more. Then they have the University and that is much more costly.
