The Earth Opened in Monkey River

A brief update, a period of rest after and before activity.

For the past week or more we have not had access to internet. This is a fairly normal occurrence so we did not really pay attention to it. After a number of days of outage, we began working with our ISP to find out what is wrong. I still don't know what was the problem, but we have internet access again.

A good friend of ours, a young woman, was involved in a serious car wreck. There was a fatality. There are criminal charges. She is free on bond, but has a court date. There may be a prison sentence in her future.

During the period of 17 May on for perhaps a week our attention and prayers have been focused on this young woman and her friend who died after the car wreck. As well, all the workers helping us except one are family to the young woman. Work stopped for about three days, but now has resumed.

In many other aspects of our lives and the lives of those around us, I have observed a period of holding, rest, contraction or frustration over the past week. As if Inanna had descended into the underworld, all plans seemed placed on hold.

Inactivity is at first relief, but quickly becomes restraint. A tension built, in our lives, our minds, our limbs, the atmosphere and apparently in the earth itself.

Several people have emailed to ask about the earthquake. I did not feel it, I was asleep. Rebecca and a young woman that stays with us felt it and both described it as if the the earth rolled, as if on a boat. It lasted for more than a minute.

Here in the North, there was no damage. South of here there was.
