Nutritionally they are rich in carbohydrate and are valuable sources of certain vitamins; they also contain 1.9-3.9 % protein. The leaves however, have a lot of protein.
There are different kinds of cocoyams. We have Xanthosoma, New cocoyam.
John and the boys planted some a while ago. Recently John and Chris planted or replanted some more. John says they are similar to a banana plant, in that it makes little baby tubers or plants. So John replanted some. When John did this replanting, he pulled out grass and weeds around them so that it made a row. Here is a picture of the one of the rows of cocoyams, with Chris walking to the chicken coop.
The day after he did this, our little chickens and the mother hen went all around there just scratching and searching for bugs and things. They seemed to have fun in there.

I have added a couple pictures of Johnny and the chickens, both boys are very good with the animals. They like holding the little baby chicks. Of course they are not so little anymore.

When you said "they aren't so little any more . . ", I was unclear as to whether you were talking about the chicks . . . or the boys! Lol.
